We are coming to the end of our first full week in the new building and it has been an awesome start to the school year. I wanted to share some thoughts from the students (and a teacher) about what they love about the new space.
“I love how open and bright it is.” – Katie Dykstra
“The new school is very cozy and welcoming.” – David Gomez
“I love Common Grounds because I run late in the morning and I need coffee.” – Amber Voss
“I really like the Commons and the loungey areas.” – Annie Weemhoff
“It’s helpful that the classes are grouped by department.” – Jacoby Perry
“I think it’s a total upgrade. I love the new music room.” – Chiquerra Brown
“Of Course the Art Room and the video wall.” – Mr. Jim Kamphuis
“I love that new gym.” – James VanderMolen
“It’s awesome to see it all come together and have students filling it.” – Isaiah King
“Air conditioning.” – Michael VanMilligan
While this is a very small sample size, everyone I talked with is really excited about the new place. It is really fun hearing the kids’ perspectives. Air conditioning did make a huge difference earlier this week with the warm temperatures. My favorite comment was from a transfer student I met with. He told me he has felt welcomed here, the teachers and students were really nice and he has really enjoyed the first few days. One of our goals is to build community and while building a new school has been hard work, so is building community. We are really working hard at this and we appreciate your prayers and support as we work with these kids. It has been a wild two weeks, but every day has brought a lot of joy. Thank you so much for all you have done for Illiana.
