My youngest daughter, Jori, who is in second grade, has seen how much time and energy I have been putting into Illiana and the Building Illiana campaign and decided she wanted to help. Her problem was what to do. Many of us often feel like our gifts don’t matter or that we don’t have anything to contribute. I want to be very clear: Every gift matters. Every prayer matters. As members of this community, we all have a role to play. There are no greater or lesser roles. We are all part of the body. However, back to Jori. Her plan, which she came up with all on her own, was to have a lemonade stand and to give all the money she earned from the lemonade stand to the “new building” as she calls it.

Although I thought it was adorable, at first I told her not to worry about it. But the more I thought about it, the more I really loved the idea. The Building Illiana campaign needs everyone to get involved. Jori and her classmates will one day be students at the new school. We still have a ways to go, but I would love to see our kids and future students get involved. Even if the lemonade stand raises $15.00, it comes from the heart of a generous child. My daughters are excited to have a lemonade stand and be a part of building the new school. (They were also very clear, they will be selling cookies too.)

I think this would be a great way to get the community and our younger kids involved and excited. So over Labor Day weekend, I want to have a lot of lemonade stands filled with our kids. If your children want to run a lemonade stand for a few hours over that weekend, let us know. We will give you a sign to use for the lemonade stand. We will publish a list of the locations of the lemonade stands so as a community, we can support these kids and their desire to be a part of this project. Your kids can run the stand on Saturday, September 3, or Monday, September 5, at any time of the day. If you are at your cottage for the weekend, put the sign at the end of the pier and collect from boaters. Whether we end up with 2 lemonade stands or 20 lemonade stands, please support these kids and the Building Illiana campaign. If you and your kids are interested, please email or call me ( or 708-474-0515 x18). Next week, I will deliver the signs to you and after Labor Day weekend, I will pick up the sign and the money. Thank you again for your ongoing support of Illiana Christian High School and the Building Illiana campaign!
