Joe Barrera was a graduate of 2016 and former chapel committee member who ran track and was very involved in the student life at Illiana. When asked to express how Illiana has impacted his heart and mind this is what he said:
“Illiana is more than just your ordinary private school. This place has impacted my heart and mind in the way that it prioritizes a Christ centered community amongst its students. I am currently a sophomore at Trinity International University, and I would’ve never been prepared to endure college life on my own if it weren’t for the way that Illiana cultivated my heart and mind. During some of the hardest moments of my life, there was never a time where I felt alone. My heart was always taken care of by the loving faculty here at Illiana. They would talk to me for hours after school in order to make sure that I was doing okay in my home life. I was able to connect with God in ways I never thought possible through chapel, praise crowd, and the many friends that I’ve made who have always pointed me back to Christ when I needed Him the most. My mind was also well equipped for life after high school not only because the teachers were well educated, but because they cared more about the student’s lives above all, rather than just doing their job for another paycheck. These are just a few of the many ways Iliana has impacted my life. Whether it be the incredible opportunities to connect with God, the amazing Christ like friends, or the faculty who love their students inside as well as outside the classroom, these are all reasons why Illiana isn’t just an ordinary private school. It’s a place where student’s lives can be changed forever in Christ in all areas of their life beyond just education.”
